The Ararat Olympic Pool was officially opened in December 1959 after years of planning by the Ararat Swimming Pool Committee which was formed in 1952.

Voluntary labour by citizens of Ararat is estimated to have saved thousands of pounds in construction costs.  The Community of Ararat worked closely together with the City Council to achieve the dream of completing the project. The Ararat Rural City Council made the decision at its October 2011 meeting to close The Ararat Olympic Pool for the 2011-2012 season due to major works required to bring the facility up to current occupational health and safety issues.

The Save Our Pool Committee was then formed as a direct result of a Public Meeting held at Alexander Oval Grandstand on Friday 3rd February 2012.  The Community of Ararat were invited to attend this meeting by Ararat Residents Ambrose Cashin and Maddy Vernon to show their support for the retention of the Outdoor Pool.
Over 1500 residents attended this meeting and a petition of over 2500 signatures was presented at the February meeting of the Ararat Rural City Council on Tuesday 21st February 2012.

The Save Our Pool Committee  have exemplified to the Council just how much of an important asset this pool is to our town. After many efforts made by the Committee and shown by the community, it is with great pleasure that the Committee is now working passionately alongside the Local Council towards refurbishing the pool to ensure that future generations are able to have access to this facility.

The community have come together in support and are behind this great cause of helping to restore and refurbish the Ararat Outdoor Pool. A number of local contractors and labours are on board and are currently onsite daily completing tasks to ensure that we are on track for the scheduled opening in December 2015.

The vision for the Pool site has grown and now not only will works include the restoration of the pool shell but also a brand new purpose built Kiosk and a Splash Play Pad for junior swimmers. These new vibrant attractions will make the Pool the place to be for all ages this summer.

The pool committee would like to thank all who have shown their support towards the project including Daniel Andrews and the Labour Party for making the project achievable.
